TEAC’s CD-X10i makes your CDs and iPods erect

Filed under:

Nothing too special here, just a nice looking piece of kit from Teac. Of course those NXT flat panel speakers aren’t exactly ordinary, but we seen ’em around for years now in everything from boom boxes to portables to laptop LCDs, projection screens, and even singing picture frames. The 2.1-channel (5W x 2, 15W sub) CD-X10i plays CDs in that upright, B&O way while packing an iPod dock in tow. Yours in Japan starting July for about ¥30,000 or right around $243.

Ralph Lauren unveils “touch-sensitive window shopping” in London

Alright, the whole touchscreen thing is getting a little out of hand. In the latest example of touch-frenzy, luxe clothier Ralph Lauren is converting a large window at its London flagship store into a giant touchscreen shopping experience as part of its Wimbledon marketing campaign. Much like Microsoft’s Big-Ass Table, the 78-inch window is coated with touch-sensitive foil, and the image is beamed onto it by a hidden projector — allowing users to purchase Ralph’s latest duds and even take in a tennis lesson or two. Purchases are paid for via phone or email the next day — so you can’t explain away that $75 pink polo by saying you accidentally brushed the screen.

Dell’s XPS 720 upgrade kit revealed

Filed under:

When Dell’s gaming powerhouse XPS 700 was delayed last year, the company attempted to make things right by promising a free Core 2 Duo upgrade when those boards became availabile — and now the Direct2Dell blog has some shots of the kit 700 owners can expect to receive when the program goes live. It’s pretty much what you’d expect: the new mobo from the XPS 720, and the mounting hardware and front I/O panel to match. Somewhat more interesting is the option to upgrade to an Intel QX6700 Core 2 Quad for 25% off Dell’s usual price, and the fact that XPS 710 owners can will also be able to get in on the upgrade action — although they’ll have to pay for the privilege. We gotta hand it to Dell — lately they’ve been pretty good at the whole lemons / lemonade thing. Let’s hope a few more companies take the hint.
