Sure, the picture on the purchase page shows the little guy running Xandros — but read the fine print ya’ll. That’s right, the moment some of you have been waiting for has finally descended upon us like the enraged, ancient dragons of yore. The Windows XP equipped ASUS Eee PC is now available at Best Buy. For just $399.99, you can experience the totally okay performance that is this 7-inch master of destruction. Enjoy it now, but remember, those 9-inch models are just around the corner.

Sprint licenses Visual Voicemail for the Samsung Instinct

Filed under:

It looks like Samsung’s Instinct won’t just be kinda-sorta doing some iPhone stuff — it will be doing actual iPhone stuff. Sprint announced that it has licensed Klausner’s Visual Voicemail (yes, Visual Voicemail) for use in the familiar looking device, adding weight to the argument that this is the carrier’s official play for the iPhone market. If you’ll recall, Klausner sued AT&T and Apple over the feature, which it claims violated two of its patents. Now all they need to do is throw Cover Flow, Google Maps integration, and some wiggly icons on there, and this race will really get heated.

Indonesian mosques to get superfast broadband at discount prices

Filed under:

Think you’re getting a decent speed for a decent price on your broadband? Well think again. Kuala Lumpur-based Velchip has just announced plans to create a vast broadband-over-powerline network which will deliver 224Mbps to users in Indonesia for about RM5 (or $1.57) per month. The goal is to connect Mosques across the country, linking together 400,000 houses of worship over existing wiring and delivering service to about 60 million users. The $14 billion project will be rolled out over the next three years, with participation from US satellite company STM Networks. It all makes that $149.95 DOCSIS 3.0 introduction look pretty weak, now doesn’t it?

Update: There was a bit of a mixup over whether this service was coming to Malaysia or Indonesia — we’ve corrected the problem.
